GBM of IIMCAA 21st January, 2007

After all the heat and dust, it was good that the light came from 21st JanuaryGBM that resolved the matter regarding IIMCAA Election...Mukesh Kaushik deserves all praise for his impartial role in conducting the GBMand dissolving the 2005 team to hand over the baton to the a 2007 team।the role of the 2005 team as that of foundation stone in setting up of theIIMCAA was also mentioned।We all felt that ideally all students should be part of IIMCAA, the GBM hasrightly endorsed the same.amrit narayan wrote:IIMC Alumni Meet 2007ANNUAL MEET 2007, the alumni meet of the Indian Institute of Mass Communicationwas organised by ex-IIMCians on Sunday, January 21, 2007, in the IIMC campus.Many distinguished media personalities including Mr OP Kejariwal (one of theseniormost IIMCian and Chief Information Commissioner of Central InformationCommission), Mr Qamar Wahid Naqvi (News Head, Aaj Tak), Mr Deepak Chaurasia(ex-IIMCian and Political Editor, Aaj Tak), Ms Vartika Nanda (ExecutiveProducer, Lok Sabha TV) and Mr Verghese K George (The Indian Express) werepresent on this occasion.With a feeling of nostalgia, Mr Kejariwal inaugurated the meet that was followedby a session of speeches. Mr Anand Pradhan (Associate Professor, Department ofHindi Journalism) was present on behalf of the institutes faculty.In the Felicitation Ceremony, alumni of the institute felicitated Mr Kejariwalfor his lifetime achievement and to glitter the institute�s name all overthe world. He is among the earliest batches of Indian Institute of MassCommunication. On this occasion, he recalled his days in IIMC and shared hisinvaluable experiences.In the Souvenir Release, Mr Kejariwal released Bridges which includes articlesby well known media professionals of their respective fields. Target readers ofthis souvenir are budding media professionals.The Felicitation Ceremony and Souvenir Release were followed by Panel Discussionbased on Opportunities and Challenges for the Media Professionals. Panellistslike Mr Naqvi, Vartika Nanda and Verghese K George (The Indian Express) sharedtheir views on the topic.Mr Naqvi emphasised on the need for a better home work for the aspiringjournalists before entering into news media. He said, In this commercialera, media sector is flourishing but there is always a dearth of knowledgeablepeople. If you come into in this field without having sufficient knowledge ofyour beat then gradually you will loose your authenticity.Vartika Nanda also emphas ised on the necessity of become a qualitativejournalist rather than a quantitative journalist।An informal get together among alumni held in the post-lunch session. Alumnilike Deepak Chaurasia, Mukesh Kaushik (Senior Political Correspondent, UNIVarta), Jaimini Kumar Shrivastava (Asstt. News Editor, AIR), Umesh Chaturvedi(Producer, ZEE News), Kalyan Ranjan (Senior Manager, Public Affairs &Communication, Coca-Cola India Inc.), Manoj Malyani (Senior Producer, STARNews), Anuranjan Jha (Executive Editor, Cobrapost) and other senior alumni tookthe dice.Better networking among IIMCians and other issues related to alumni associationwere discussed in this session. During the meeting, it was decided that anAction Committee will be formed, which will work for the development of theassociation.Chairing the General Body Meeting (GBM) of the Indian Institute of MassCommunication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) at the meeting on January 21, 2007 atthe IIMC campus, Mukesh Kaushik announced the dissolution of the old team ofIIMCAA office-bearers which was formed by the GBM of 23rd April, 2005 at thesame venue.Kaushik called for a new and liberal constitution which allows everybody whohave passed out from IIMC to be automatically be deemed members of IIMCAA. Heridiculed the old norms of membership which was conditional-it made payment ofcertain fees mandatory to be considred alumni. He wondered what will happen if acertain fees will have to be paid by Indians to be citizens of India. IIMCiansare IIMCians, why should fees etc come in the way. This drew resounding approvalfrom the members present at the GBM . This proposal was accepted unanimously.Therefore, with effect from 21st January, 2007 every individual who has paasedout of IIMC are members of IIMCAA irrespective of whether or not membership feeshas been paid.Kaushik annoucned the name of Coordination Commitee and a Core Group asreplacement of the previous arrangement to make IIMCAA a vibrant body. The newteam has been given three months to do so.After this discussion, moderator Mukesh Kaushik announced the Closing Ceremonyand promised to meet again.
